Top Grilling Ideas We're Trying in 2022

As a Big Green Egg owner, there's always another new cut of meat, or new smoking technique to look forward to. As many of you know, you can even make pizzas, or even bake on your BGE! I wanted to share a few ideas and recipes that we're looking forward to trying this Spring season.

  1. Brisket - this has been on our list for the longest time. Our biggest hesitancy has been the time commitment and the cost of brisket. A brisket can run you $80 - $100. and it's also a big cut of meat around 8-15 pounds. I'm sure you can find it for more or less depending on the cut of meat. Our concern was splurging on this cut of meat - and cooking for a big group of people and having it come out poorly. We'll it's time to bite the bullet. We'll be doing a dry run over the next couple of weeks for our friends and family. We'll have the local pizza place on speed dial in case it goes south!
  2. Pizza - this one seems like a no-brainer. The ingredients are cheap, and everyone can customize their toppings based on their tastes and preferences. I recently purchased a new pizza stone so we're ready to roll (the dough). One tip I've received is that you want the pizza stone to heat up with the grill. In other words, you don't want to put the pizza stone on the grill once its over 500 degrees. It runs the risk of cracking! Place the pizza stone on shortly after the grill is lit, and have it heat up along side the egg.
  3. Dinosaur Ribs - Similar to the brisket - we haven't taken the plunge on buying these massive pieces of meat. They look a little too good to pass up, and would be a great use of the smoker. We're looking forward to trying this recipe
  4. Corn Bread - this is a very easy one to pull off. Just use your Big Green Egg as an oven and bake around 350 degrees. Double check your recipe before using this temperature. One tip that we were given was to pair this after smoking pulled pork. The grill will be at 225-250 degrees. Once you're done with the smoke, you can open up the dampers and ramp it up to 350 and bake your favorite corn bread. We have heard of folks trying to go from a high temp to 350 - this will cause the corn bread to burn! Make sure you either start immediately at 350 degrees, or increase the grill from a lower temperature.
  5. Beer Can Chicken - this is another recipe that looks fairly straightforward when you look at the recipe - plus you get the benefit of cracking a beer and having a few sips before smoking your chicken. The simple recipe is that you take a half a can of beer, and insert it into the cavity, holding the bird upright. As the chicken smokes, and the beer evaporates it should create a moist, flavorful chicken. This is one of the most affordable recipes around - and also not too time instensive. Beer can chicken can be cooked in around 45 minutes. Always make sure to check the temperature before serving!
